The Eaton Logic Controller (ELC) is Eaton Cutler-Hammer’s latest offering into the PLC (Programmable Logic Controller) market. Less than half the size of a typical brick PLC, the ELC is a micro-PLC with features previously found only in larger, much more expensive rack-mount PLCs:
- Built-in digital and analog I/O for low-cost standalone control
- Local I/O expandable to 256; I/O expansion modules connect easily with no extra wiring
- Removable terminal blocks for easy wiring
- 2 serial ports with Modbus RTU supported on both
- Real-time clock/calendar
- High-speed pulse inputs and outputs
- Powerful instruction set:
      — Floating point math
      — Trig functions
      — Clock/calendar instructions
      — Modbus RTU/ASCII instructions
      — High-speed pulse capture/pulse output
      — Interrupts
      — Matrix operations
      — Retentive data storage
      — Stepper motor positioning control
      — PID functions with Autotune
      — Fuzzy temperature control
With the ELC, I/O can be local or highly distributed. All of the ELC specialty and analog modules (analog I/O, thermocouple, RTD, motion control) are capable of remote connection via a 2-wire RS485 interface using Modbus protocol. Additional remote I/O modules are available (see link below.)
Choose from one of 5 different controller styles:
- PB models: Â 14 local I/O expandable to 256, 3.8K program steps, 2 serial ports
- PC models: Â 12 local I/O expandable to 256, 7.9K program steps, 2 serial ports, clock/calendar, 2 setpoint potentiometers
- PH models: Â 12 local I/O expandable to 256, 7.9K program steps, 2 serial ports, clock/calendar, 2 setpoint potentiometers, 100 KHz high-speed counters and pulse outputs
- PA models: Â 10 local I/O (including analog I/O) expandable to 256, 7.9K program steps, 2 serial ports, clock/calendar, 2 configurable 7-segment displays
- PV models: Â 28 local I/O expandable to 512, 16K program steps, 2 serial ports, clock/calendar, 2 setpoint potentiometers, 200 KHz high-speed counters and pulse outputs

The ELC-PH12 model PLC provides high-speed pulse outputs which can be used to drive any of Omega’s step & direction stepper drives. The ELCSoft ladder logic software has built-in step motor functions which make programming your motion control application easy. The STM23S-2AN is an integrated stepper drive + stepper motor which accepts pulses from a PLC. Add the ELCSoft programming software, ELC-CBPCELC1 programming cable, and OMPS150A24 power supply for a complete motion-control system that costs less than $1000.
General-Purpose Signal Conditioners for any PLC
***New!*** Universal Remote I/O Modules:Â Digital, Analog, Thermocouple, RTD
Order a starter kit! Includes an ELC controller, ELC graphics panel, power supply, cables, & software. See “Accessories” below.
PLEASE NOTE:Â All of the PLCs require the ELCSOFT software and either ELC-CBPCELC1 or ELC-CBPCELC3 programming cable.
